In this romantic tragedy from acclaimed director Steven Soderbergh, a bizarre love triangle is born at a doll factory in a small town. Lonely and isolated, long time employees Martha and Kyle have become friends by default, but their dynamic is upset by the arrival of a new worker, young single mother Rose. As Martha skeptically speculates about Rose’s dubious character, she’s distraught to find Kyle and Rose developing a relationship of their own. These three workers strive to establish and maintain meaningful connections, but Rose’s violent death disrupts their routine lives and shatters their hopes. Featuring a cast of non-professional actors from the Ohio location, Soderbergh brings this tragic story to life with startling realism.

In 2000 he received the Best Director Academy Award for Traffic. In 2000,
Soderbergh and George Clooney formed Section Eight, a film production company. In 2002, Section Eight released three films: Confessions of a Dangerous Mind, Insomnia, and Welcome to Collinwood and
produced Syriana in 2005.
