Adriana, a 13-year-old girl from Mexico City, is abducted by a Russian gang, one link in a global network that earns millions trafficking in human cargo. Adriana’s brother, Jorge, sets out on a desperate mission to save her. Between Mexico and the United States Jorge meets Ray, a Texas cop who’s on his own mission to find a loved one lost to the sex trade. This mismatched duo form an unlikely bond as they track Adriana’s kidnappers from the slums of Mexico City to a secret Internet sex-slave auction, culminating in a showdown in the suburbs of New Jersey.

Though he was only 28 year old when the producers Roland Emmerich and Rosilyn Heller selected him to direct Trade, Marco Kreuzpaintner had already established himself as one of the leading young filmmakers in his native Germany. His second feature, the coming-out and coming-of-age feature Summer Storm, won the German Film Award (Germany’s version of the Oscar) for best young director and earned nominations for best director and best screenplay. He is currently filming Krabat.
