At 27, filmmaker Joanna Rudnick is tested positive for the BR[east]CA[ncer] mutation. Hence an impossible decision: remove her healthy breasts and ovaries or risk incredible odds of developing cancer. “In The Family”, a groundbreaking and deeply personal investigation, follows Joanna’s journey through the world of predictive genetic testing and preventive surgery. Along the way, she looks to other women and families dealing with the same battle.
Director, Producer and Writer, Joanna has a background in science journalism and film production. She has worked for American Masters for three years contributing to numerous films. Among others, she co-produced the documentary “Robert Capa: In Love and War”. She is currently working on “Future Perfect: Conversations on the Meaning of the Genetics Revolution”, a series exploring the science of genetics.
