Set against the tension-filled backdrop of the 1979 Iran hostage crisis, director Babak Shokrian follows the odyssey of a group of Iranian immigrants in Los Angeles. Houshang, an Iranian youth, will do just about anything to get past the velvet ropes and into the American dream. Houshang believes his ticket out of his uncle’s Persian market and into American society is to buy into one night’s ownership of a glittery disco - if he can just come up with the money. Houshang’s group of friends and relatives, which include a cross- section of expatriates suffering the consequences of global revolutionary events back home, are skeptical of his plans. As Houshang struggles to pull them into the deal, he decides to show them a piece of the dream by taking them out for an evening at the disco. Instead of the excitement he envisions, they encounter a night of surprise and transformation, filled with disappointment, hilarity, pain, confusion and revelation.
