Stefano Cabrera
A cellist, arranger and composer, Stefano Cabrera was born in Genoa in 1971. He graduated with highest honors in cello with Nevio Zanardi as teacher at the Conservatory of Genoa and studied with Mario Brunello, Yo-Yo Ma, Amedeo Baldovino, Emil Kline.
He studied jazz and composition. His compositions have won awards in major national and international competitions. His works have been performed at international festivals and prestigious venues in Italy, as well as broadcasted by television and radio outlets.
He collaborates with numerous theaters, orchestras and chamber groups as an arranger and orchestrator. In 2006, he formed the Gnu Quartet, where he is the principal arranger. With Gnu, he collaborates with major record companies and concert artists of Italian music (Gino Paoli, Malika Ayane, Niccolò Fabi, Simon Webbe, Baustelle etc.). In the summer of 2010 he was invited to the "Silda Jazz Festival" in Norway to write an original project "four hands" with Norwegian artists, and in the same year, he wrote the jazz version of "Peter and the Wolf." This year, he has launched a new project "Almost 3" with Flavia Barbacetto: a voice and cello duo.
