Sally El Hosaini
Sally El Hosaini was born in Wales in a Welsh-Egyptian family and grew up in Egypt. She published his first novel at the age of seven years.
Before taking up her career as a director, she taught English literature at a girls' school in Sana'a in Yemen and has worked for Amnesty International.
In 2008 she wrote and directed the short movie The Fifth Bowl, presented at the BAFTA Awards where it won the 60 Seconds of Fame - Best Regional Film. In 2009 she wrote and directed Henna Night with Beatriz Romilly and Amber Rose Revah and Badria Timimi.
Her debut feature film was My Brother The Devil. Shot in the streets of Hackney in London, the film tells the story of two English brothers of Egyptian origin, born in a conservative Muslim family, trying to break free from the small criminal gang they belong to and change a destiny that seems to have been already written for them.
The work was presented in the official section of the Sundance Film Festival of 2012, in the World Dramatic Competition, where it won the Best Cinematographyed ilWorldview / Sundance Impact Award. The movie then competed in the Panorama section at the International Film Festival of Berlin, where it was awarded with the Best European Film / Europa Cinemas Label Award.
This film has been awarded at Miff Awards 2012 for the best acting male performance of James Floyd
