NON-PROFIT CULTURAL ASSOCIATION MADE IN MILAN, ANNOUNCES AT AFM-AMERICAN FILM MARKET FIRST EVER NEW FORMAT, MIFF AWARDS.
For the first time ever since the first Academy Awards format event was born at the Roosevelt Hotel in 1929, and the first Film Festival took place in Venice in 1932, a new format will be unveiled and implemented by the Milanese Film Festival (MIFF) at its Ninth annual 2009 international cinema exhibition to be held May 4-12 in Milan, Italy.
MIFF, in its new invention of an Award Event based on Classic AMPAS (Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences) rules twisted with a Film Festival program, will allow new, not yet released films into competition with Nominations. A revolutionary format designed to best promote indie films and rising even more the prestige of Milanese Oscar statuette, Leonardo’s Horse.
A formal announcement of the overall plans for MIFF 2009 will be presented by founder and director of the festival, Andrea Galante, accompanied by top Italian representative of Culture in Los Angeles, Francesca Valente, director and coordinator of all the eight Italian Culture Institutes in U.S.
“First and foremost, as a film festival, we want to see the films sold and distributed. With this in mind, I worked my way backward. From the goal of releasing a good film, what’s the steps we need to take?” director and founder Andrea Galante added “that’s the only way to educate our audience, we’ll place the Award Ceremony at the beginning of the festival, give them some good films ‘worthy of viewing’ and leave the audience to decide on top of the Jury, among Winner titles.”
Anna Kalbhenn, Director of International Relations seems to agree and claims “....if in Cannes you find the Grand Jury Prize, in Milan we made the Grand Audience Winners Award, most wanted Horse, to be revealed on the final day.”
A private reception and formal announcement is to be held in conjunction with AFM (American Film Market) on Saturday, November 8, 2008 at 10 a.m. at the Fairmont Miramar Hotel, Santa Monica.
